New York State CE Regulations for Psychologists During COVID-19
New York psychologists are normally limited to taking only one-third of their required continuing education units through home study. However, as a result of COVID-19 the Department has changed the regulations allowing all New York psychologists to complete up to 100% of continuing education as self-study through January 1, 2022, provided that it is taken from a Department-approved provider and is in an acceptable subject area for the specific profession. Professional Psych Seminars is a Department-approved provider (#PSY-005) and all its classes are in the acceptable subject areas.
Additionally, the Department will grant an adjustment to all licensees, regardless of registration renewal date, to utilize self-study for any coursework taken through January 1, 2022. This means that if your license is only being renewed in 2023, you can still take all your courses through self-study if you complete them by January 1, 2022. After that time, you will be limited to the one-third self-study course limit, which will be a maximum of 12 units out of the required 36 units, once the CE phase in period is completed effective January 1, 2024.
Our On-Demand classes qualify as self-study classes since you are not interacting with the instructor. They are videotaped and edited versions of our live classes and include all the handouts from the live class. The classes are 6 hours in length, and you receive 6.0 CE credits. The class is broken into segments of about 30 minutes each, with a few questions after each segment. This allows you to do a little at a time and come and go as you please. You can even fast forward in a segment. You can watch our On-Demand classes on your computer, tablet, or phone. After you have completed all segments and answered the quiz questions, you submit the quiz for grading, complete a course evaluation and receive your certificate. The date on the certificate is the date you pass the quiz. There is no time limit to complete the class and you have ongoing access to the class, the handouts, and your certificate after it is completed. These classes are considered self-study or home study by most Boards since you are not interacting with the instructor.
