- Describe and utilize a functionally-based categorization system of evidence-based interventions to design more efficient and effective transdiagnostic treatment plans

Course Description
Largely fueled by the limitations of DSM-5 (symptom overlap, comorbidity, exclusion of client-specific variables), transdiagnostic approaches targeting psychological mechanisms are the new gold standard
of behavioral healthcare. Process-based therapy pinpoints the causal and
maintaining variables underlying a broad range of problems and is more easily individualized and disseminated. This webinar presents a transdiagnostic roadmap that guides clinicians in assessing presenting problems and designing treatment plans that target specific change processes for each client. The roadmap synthesizes clinical science into a practical tool comprised of two interactive categories: Vulnerabilities that predispose individuals to psychological disorders, and coping Responses that maintain problematic behaviors and emotional distress. Participants will learn how to identify key transdiagnostic mechanisms,
develop clear case formulations that explain problems, and choose interventions that target
client-specific change processes and facilitate achievement of therapy goals.
Instructor
Rochelle Frank Ph.D.
Shelly Frank is a clinical psychologist in Oakland, CA with over 25 years of inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health experience in both the public and private sectors. She specializes in evidence-based treatment of complex and co-occurring mood, anxiety, and trauma-related problems in adults and adolescents, from a transdiagnostic process-based approach that is tailored to the specific needs of each client. Dr. Frank is passionate about increasing access to high-quality behavioral healthcare, which was an emphasis of her previous tenure as Clinical Director of Family Mosaic Project (an intensive care management and wraparound services agency within the San Francisco Department of Public Health that targets severely emotionally disturbed children, youth, and families) and her former role as a clinical adviser for Octave Health Group, a conglomerate of measurement-based therapy clinics throughout California and New York. While at SFDPH Dr. Frank was a key contributor to clinical, administrative, and public health policy and program development, and quality assurance and quality improvement task forces within the county. She currently is an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley (Clinical Science Program), and holds faculty and supervisory appointments at The Wright Institute and the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Frank provides professional consultation to other clinicians to help them achieve better therapy outcomes with clinically challenging and high-risk patients, and she has led numerous continuing education workshops for professional and lay audiences. She also serves on the advisory board of the Oakland DBT and Mindfulness Center and is on the board of directors of the Institute for Better Health, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the overall health and values-based living of individuals within larger communities via technology-assisted process-based behavioral therapy. Dr. Frank is co-author of The transdiagnostic road map to case formulation and treatment planning: Practical guidance for clinical decision making, and a contributing author to S. G. Hofmann & S. C. Hayes (Eds.), Beyond the DSM: Toward a process-based alternative for diagnosis and mental health treatment.
About This Webinar
The webinar is a live, interactive class. You will view the webinar in real time from your home or office on a computer, tablet (e.g., iPad) or phone. You will be able see the speaker and the slides, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and respond to polls. You will have access to the handouts, which you can view on your computer or download and print.
You will need to show up on time to receive credit, just like at an in-person class, but you can wear whatever you’d like! The class will run from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time. There will be a morning and afternoon break and a break for lunch. At the end of the class you will need to take a post-test and receive a score of 75% or above to pass. You have up to three attempts to pass the post-test. Most people pass on their first attempt. After two attempts to pass the post-test you will need to contact our office and you will be provided with one more attempt to pass the post-test. The post-test will only be available at the end of the class. Once you pass the post-test, you will complete an evaluation online and then you will receive your Certificate of Attendance online, which you can view and print.
Registration Information
The course fee is determined by the date of payment in relation to the course date:
- Early Registration: If payment is received 3 weeks prior to the webinar date.
- Regular Registration: For payments received less than 3 weeks prior to the webinar date.
Cancellation Policy
There is a $35.00 processing fee, per seminar, for refunds requested by the Wednesday prior to the weekend of the webinar. After that time, there will be no refunds. If a course must be cancelled due to an unforeseen event (e.g., natural disaster, instructor illness), the webinar will be rescheduled. Participants will be credited to take the rescheduled course or another PPS webinar. No refunds will be given.
