Telesupervision and Clinical Supervision: Supervising in a Trauma-informed Mode

This workshop introduces the most current best practices and guidelines for telesupervision and supervision. Participants will learn the complexity of the multiple components of supervisor competence both in remote (telesupervision) and in face-to-face clinical supervision. Emphasis will provide a lens on multicultural identities and worldviews in the context of establishing the supervisory relationship translated to the supervision contract and to excellent practice in goal setting and anchored feedback, assessing relationship and outcomes, the impact of trauma and trauma-informed supervision, managing countertransference and emotional reactivity, enhancing supervisor competence in self-awareness, care, and support, and a proactive approach to ethical and legal issues. Lecture, discussion, and attention to complex issues in supervision will be included. This class meets the clinical supervision course requirement for licensure renewal.

Carol Falender, Ph.D. is co-author of Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (2nd ed.) (2021), Consultation in Psychology: A Competency-based approach (2020), Essentials of the Practice of Competency-based Clinical Supervision (2016); Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (APA, 2004); and Getting the Most Out of Clinical Supervision: A Guide for Interns and Trainees (APA, 2012), all with Edward Shafranske; co-editor of Casebook for Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (APA, 2008) with Edward Shafranske, and Multiculturalism and Diversity in Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (2014) with Edward Shafranske and Celia Falicov. Dr. Falender was a member of the Supervision Guidelines Group of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and Chair of the Supervision Guidelines Task Force of the Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) of APA. She directed APA approved internship programs at child and family guidance clinics for over twenty years. Dr. Falender is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) and was President of Division 37, Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (APA). She is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University, Clinical Professor in the UCLA Department of Psychology, and Chair of the California Psychological Association Continuing Education Committee. She received the 2018 Distinguished Career Contributions to Education and Training in Psychology Award from APA.

All of our classes are offered at the intermediate level unless otherwise indicated. All classes are designed for experienced mental health professionals.

Test policy

You need a score of 75% or higher in each lesson/module to move to the next lesson/module. Most people pass on their first attempt. You have up to 3 attempts to pass each module. After two failed attempts you need to contact our office and we will reset the quiz for one more attempt.

How long to I have to complete this class?

There is no time limit. You can take as long as you'd like to complete the class.

Can I sign-up for a class now, even though I don't want to take it for some time in the future?

Yes. Customers often do this when we are running a special, offering you a discounted price.

I lost my certificate. What do I do?

Log in to your account, navigate to the course, and view/print your Certificate.

Do I have to take the entire class at one time or can I stop and come back another time?

You can sign in and out anytime, from any computer, to continue the class. We break our classes into segments of 20 to 30 minutes. You can watch one segment and then come back later. You can even fast forward within a segment.

I am concerned about having to remember everything to take the test. Will this be a problem?

No. We ask you 2 to 3 questions after each 20 to 30 minute video lesson. Answer the questions after each lesson and save your answers. You can come back later and watch another video lesson when you have time. You don't have to remember more than one video lesson at a time. Also, most of our questions are very straight forward. You should have no problem answering them if you've watched the video lesson.

Can you print out the handouts for my on-demand class and send them to me?

No. You can view them online or print them out yourself.
